When Is The iPhone 5 Launching?
Apple is launching the much rumored, new iPhone in 2012. The new iPhone for 2012, also known as the iPhone 5, is perhaps one of the most eagerly awaited smartphones in the world right now and is expected to hit Apple stores and carriers in October this year. Google’s mobile operating system Android, has gained tremendous popularity over the past year, specially after they launched Ice Cream Sandwich, their latest iteration of the mobile OS after Apple’s iPhone 4S launch. Because of that, Apple has been on the defensive since then and is in dire need of a device that can give the iPhone back its position as the king of smartphones.
The new iPhone 2012 needs a major overhaul and drastic design change now. We have heard millions of rumors since early 2011 about the mysterious and elusive iPhone 5 and everyone has been wondering what new features it will have, what it will look like, and how it will affect the smartphone industry.
Based on some rumors of its best competitor, the Samsung Galaxy S3, the iPhone 5 needs to have a Dual Core processor running at around 1.5 to 1.8 GHz, with at least 1 GB of RAM. There are some rumors of the new A6 CPU being quad core but that would be a major battery hog. Apple also needs to build upon one of the iPhone 4S’s strengths: the 8-megapixel RGBV camera! The iPhone 5 could have an improved 8MP sensor, or even a 12MP sensor but the software behind it will need to be top notch, specially since Google has focused on the camera application of their Galaxy Nexus device as well. On the screen front, the new iPhone 2012 needs to have at least a 4 inch screen with HD resolutions because smartphone users have grown accustomed to more screen area. If it works, it works!
Another key feature would be the battery life. The iPhone 4 and iPhone 4S could do pretty well, but with the Galaxy Nexus being able to push up to 21 hours of use with ICS 4.0.4, Apple needs to push the new iPhone’s battery life up a few hours too. The network connectivity options will also play a significant role as HTC and Samsung have both started producing LTE enabled devices.
NFC or Near Field Communication is another essential feature for the future iPhone. It allows two-way communication between devices with just a swipe, allowing contact sharing, financial transactions, and even limited file sharing. Google is experimenting with the technology with its Google Wallet application for Android devices. The iPhone 4 screen was also very prone to cracking and breaking so Apple needs to make it stronger and add in some bezel or something that can keep the glass safe.
iOS 6 has been rumored to be in production for quite some time and according to some code discovered in the current version of the OS, the new version is paying special attention to the camera and video handling capabilities of iOS devices.
Considering how Apple launched the iPhone 4S in fall 2011, fairly close to the winter holidays, the people from Cupertino might be trying to boost their launch sales as a holiday gift item. The timing definitely fits!
Quite a few technology websites and blogs have speculated that the new iPhone might be coming around in June 2012, during their WWDC event. However, an October 5 launch seems more likely as that date would not only that coincide with the iPhone’s naming convention, but it could also be to commemorate Steve Jobs as he passed away on October 5, 2011.
Rumors and speculation aside, there is very little information available about the new iPhone, and seeing how tight lipped Apple is about new products, only time will tell when we will get the iPhone 5.
